XMAS 2027 Mentors & Muffins

Mentors & Muffins is a structured, in-person mentoring event designed for students and early-career researchers to connect with experienced scientists and professionals over light refreshments. This is a one-time, 1.5-hour event open to all registered conference attendees, whether you are seeking mentorship or willing to serve as a mentor.

During the event, registered mentors from a variety of sectors – including academia, industry, nonprofit, government, and tech – will be assigned to tables. Mentees will be assigned a starting table and will rotate together as an entire table to the next table in a fixed direction after each round, ensuring that every mentee has the opportunity to meet most participating mentors by the end of the session. Table assignments for mentors and mentees will be made available prior to the event.

All interested participants must register in advance. Sign-ups will close once capacity is reached. To register, please use the links below.

Mentors

• Arrive early and make your own connections! You are welcome to enjoy refreshments with other mentors and get settled at your assigned table 30 minutes before the students arrive. You are encouraged to discuss topics beyond research, including experiences that are unique and relevant to your career path, such as work-life balance, starting a family, or conducting international research.

Mentees

Prior to the event, you will receive a complete list of mentors and your assigned starting table number. During the event, you will rotate through all tables, giving you the chance to meet most mentors. Be open and curious while learning about diverse career paths and personal experiences.
